Time To Level Up - Continuous Improvement
Away from this blog I review every session for things that went well and things that I could improve on in the future (some are great, some are ok, some are somewhere in the middle and some I don't get right). However they go, there is always something to be learned. In my day job we talk a lot about managing transformational change and then embedding continuous improvement methodologies so that any change continues to evolve over time rather than becoming stagnant, stale and needing full blown transformation in the future. One of the reasons I think I'm good at my job is because continuous improvement is the biggest motivator for me, as long as I'm improving I'm happy, when I'm not it's time to go.
That leads me to where I am in my coaching journey, and why I have been a bit less consistent at blog writing. I recently jumped passed the 100 hours of CrossFit Classes coached (Woo) and I have learned and continue to learn a lot. But this is a larger transformation, so I have started the next qualifications on my list, the Personal Trainer L3 and a Nutrition L4 course (to add to my CF-L1, PE Teaching Degree, Rowing L2 and various other L1 courses from university). The reason I am doing both is actually pretty simple. The L3 PT course will help round my knowledge of the gym space and if I am going to take on clients I just couldn't bring myself to do it morally without it, I want to be as prepared as possible. Nutrition wise, it can be a minefield and the reality is there is a lot of background information that goes into qualifying to giving nutritional advice and then helping people navigate that minefield. It feels like the two will give me a great platform to extend what I do no and give both me and any potential clients confidence. Neither position should be taken for granted.
So what next? Well firstly an intense period of learning and development alongside the day job, coaching and training (time is proving to be tight!!). But with them I want to start taking on some clients, both in person and online. That’s for later though, for now the aim is to learn, both theoretically and to continue to learn from the classes I am taking!
See you on the gym floor!
Andy
