Injury > Why I Didn't Sign Up For The Open

Good News, for the last few weeks I have had the all clear to return to doing all CrossFit/ Functional Fitness Movements, as long as I am building them up slowly and not going too hard too soon.
It's a fantastic step and I have loved being able to do a bit more (even if there are still some classes I avoid). Yes that means not jumping straight in to do heavy cleans or anything heavy front rack, not launching myself onto the ground to do a burpee, no high volume wall walks or hand stand push ups, etc. There have been days where I have pushed it too far and had to pull back but that is all part of the course at this point. It does unfortunately rule me out the open this year… it's a shame but it's a necessary step. Honestly, considering I have been battling this injury since June last year, it has come too far and is too close to being all the way back to risk it now… I have to admit though, being down at Friday night lights, even for a little bit definitley reinforced the feeling that I am missing out (fortunatley there will be plenty more events throughout the year to get involved in).
There is also the fact that I'm going on honeymoon soon and have some awesome activities booked (taking off during the last Friday night lights!), as well as the 70.3 I am training for which, if my wrist goes again, is going to make the cycle a whole world of pain and awkwardness.
That also makes it scary, once that 70.3 is over it will have been a year since I have really focussed on CrossFit. I did a workout last week that had toes to bar in it and I had gone from cracking out decent, consistent, sets of them to struggling with sets of 5's and my forearms being on fire the next day. In the long run, taking the time to slowly build up to it again until I throw myself back into it will be a good thing. None the less, I can't wait to get back into the CrossFit gym more often, into more classes and working on skills again. As much as I enjoy endurance events, the training can become monotonous, the beauty of CrossFit is that there is always something else to work on or a new challenge to overcome.
For now I am going to cheerlead and help where I can with the Open!
