Finding A New Rhythm

Last week I wrote how Winter is coming (and given the temperature today it seems to be coming quickly!) and with that it's time to take a bit of my own advice. One of the top tips I gave was this:

'Get into a Rhythm - Most people do well when they are in a set rhythm and training cadence. We often get hung up on one that has worked before or that has worked recently. There is a reality that as the seasons, goals and us as people change our ideal rhythm does as well. Don't be afraid to shake the rhythm up and find what fits into these winter seasons.' https://a-crewandy.wixsite.com/a-crew-coaching/post/winter-is-coming

What I really want this Blog to be is authentic so honestly I have struggled lately. There has been a lot going on, wedding prep, injury, moving house, another dog, a new job, coaching and coaching courses. Plus some personal stuff that has been impacting me more than I would probably like to admit.

I still have massive goals that I have to get done by the end of this year because next years goals are even bigger...

BUT it's time to admit what has worked in the past isn't going to work for me now.

There is also a reality that it might take a little bit to figure out what will work. I think some of my old habits will serve me well and there are some that will need to be changed. The one that I think will have the biggest impact, but equally will have the biggest impact on my life away from the gym, is going to bed earlier. Previously I have been able to take two mornings off a week, one to sleep and one to coach, that's not going to cut it now. I'm also taking on a new challenge, a 70.3, so that also means my training will have to change. Cue swimming on two mornings a week and tailoring some CrossFit/ Hyrox workouts that I do at home to make sure that I am working on that compromised running (Interestingly enough I heard Hunter McIntyre say recently that the last Hyrox World Record he ran was after he had also trained and completed an Iron Man so I think there are a lot of crossovers that will keep my hand in this area of fitness that I enjoy so much).

It's funny isn't it, I have said before that a lot of these blogs become reflective and maybe I didn't appreciate when I wrote last week how sometimes a need to change can feel like failure. That fact often holds us back. Mindset is everything in those instances, so rather than a failure, the challenge becomes thinking positively about the fact that maybe you have grown and grown beyond what worked previously. In business we talk about failing fast, which sometimes means failing often until you get it right. Recognising that something isn't working and changing it before the impact becomes too major - Fitness is no different (I hasten to add that it's only the case if those failures are learnt from!)

So here's to finding what works, what's going to carry me through the winter months, what is going to propel me forward in all aspect (well coaching and physically anyway!).
