Chad X 1000 & Movember
Short one this week but I wanted to acknowledge the movements happening right now In the CrossFit world. I think CrossFit and the community in general did a fantastic job of highlighting why the workout is important. CrossFit HQ get a lot of stick (and rightly so) but in order to hold them to account fairly I think it is only right to acknowledge the things that are done well.
For those of us not in the United States I think it means less about the military element (I think it is fair to say that certainly in the UK we don't celebrate our military as much as maybe we should?) and more about the person and mental health aspect. Without a doubt the mental health aspect rings true all around the world. We are currently also in the month of November, or should I say Movember… a mo-vemement that started off really focusing on raising awareness for prostate cancer and more recently has expanded that to focus to also raise awareness around male mental health and how globally, on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day. A number which when I really think about it feel unfathomable (https://uk.movember.com/mens-health/mental-health).
It's really great being a part of it with the gym because the gym is the place I started going because I was working from home and needed to see more than just the person I lived with (my then Girlfriend now Wife who is fantastic company but it would be unfair on both of us if I relied on her to be my only other human interaction on a day to day basis). If nothing else I really, really hope that the deluge of awareness raising helps people start conversations that they might not have otherwise had. Chad as a work out, programmed accross the globe, was certainly a great way to bring people together.
Keep talking!
Andy
