Celebrate The Small Wins

Celebrate The Small Wins

After a class recently I was told by a coach and someone I consider a stand out coach at that, that my Toes To Bar were the best they have seen in a workout. It was a little thing, and it came with some great feedback on how to make them even better. But that little bit of feedback, on a movement I am determine to be more proficient in, went a long way. I left the class with a huge sense of accomplishment and it really made my day.

It really highlighted to me the power of celebrating the small wins. It really doesn't have to be a lot either. There is of course a place and an environment for the PB bell and the whole class gathering around and cheering when someone hits a big lift. Those are maybe the bigger wins, the ones that are easy to spot that everyone can get behind. Those aren’t the ones I am talking about here.

I'm talking about the little things, the things that the whole class probably don't see but a coach does. It's the person who has been working on an early arm bend in an Olympic lift who nails it during a workout. It's the person who links their first two toes to bar during a workout or hits the RX standard on a wall walk for the first time. It doesn't sound important, but to the person individually it could be huge, especially if it's someone who has been working on that movement for a while. The recognition of that and acknowledgement from a coach can leave a real  positive impact on someone and can be the difference between someone coming back and staying with the programme for a long time and feeling like they aren’t making any progress so walking away.

The little things matter, success is the best motivator and at the end of the day that boost, from recognition of a small win, could be the thing that really makes someone's day... and isn't that one of the fundamental reasons we are in this game!
